Telangana to introduce 2 new undergraduate courses from academic year 20-21

B.Sc in Data Sciences and B.Com in Business Analytics programs are ready to introduce in Conventional universities from this academic year 20-21.

Starting the academic year 2020-21, students will have 2 new courses to select for their under-graduation in the State. Conventional universities are good to go to introduce a three-year B.Sc in Data Sciences and B.Com in Business Analytics programs from this year. The 2 courses are being planned and developed keeping in view of the Market Trends.

The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) has conducted an expert committee headed by former Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof. S Ramachandram for designing the syllabus for the BSc Data Science program.

According to officials, 2 multinational companies have come forward and are helping in developing the syllabus which is job oriented. Apart from framing the syllabus for the Data Science program, experts from these companies will be training teachers besides providing internship assistance to students.

Colleges to introduce Data Science and Business Analytics programs

The B.Sc Data Science program will be offered in a combination, i.e. Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science. Students who have passed Intermediate with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are likely to be given eligibility. The admission to two new courses will be through the Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) and it will be done on the basis of the merit secured in Intermediate.

“It has been decided to introduce two new courses, B.Sc in Data Science and B.Sc in Business Analytics, at undergraduate level from next academic year. The syllabus for two courses is in its final stages. Like for B.Sc Data Sciences, we are also trying to collaborate with industry to offer B.Com Business Analytics program,” a senior official said.

There are more than 1,000-degree colleges all over the State, at first a chosen few colleges will be allowed authorization to introduce these 2 new courses. The permission will be given on the availability of faculty in the colleges.

In the meantime, the TSCHE authorities are prepared to start the degree admissions through the DOST. “The DOST admissions will begin soon after the Intermediate Public Examinations results are announced. All the system has been put in place and the entire admission process can be completed online only,” the official added.
